Choke pulloff release time
(1/1)
Pav8427:
Looking ahead for my spring tuning session. I have a stock 79 H/O and will be installing a 17059553 with Cliffs parts. I have a few extra choke pulloffs and want to modify release times.
Not completly stock. IE.
Recurved distributer.
No CAT.
All emmisions bypassed.
No EGR.
2.56 equipped California car.
What would be a good range of release times to have on hand?
novadude:
IMO and experience, I would not go too quick on release time for a stock-ish engine with 2.56 gears. Otherwise you may need to wind the air door spring too tight to prevent a sag / bog condition. Maybe 2-3 seconds?
Pav8427:
Thats what I am thinking also. The one I have here at work is running about 3 1/2 now, maybe a bit more, and think that is too slow. I have a few more to check at home before I modify. Who knows, maybe they are a bit quicker and I have a few to play with.
Cliff Ruggles:
A 3.5 second release time is too slow even for your set-up.
Most of the stock pull-offs on those later Olds carbs are pretty slow.
The release time is also much slower if you are testing it with a vacuum pump vs just compressing/releasing the pull-off.
I sell the good OEM pull-offs and can custom modify them for any application and they come with a straight tube for easy access to the restriction.
The ones with the bent tube are difficult to modify and I avoid them here, especially the new ones being sold. The spring in them is too strong and there is no restriction so them open instantly.....
