Front bowl vent (I think) question ....

(1/1)

BumpaD_Z28:
Hello, I'm wondering if I can shorten what I believe too be the front bowl vent ?, pictured here:

With very minimal hood clearance, it has a slight interference problem with the underside "mesh structure" of the K&N Xtreme top I'm attempting to run ...

A few years ago I tested one of those lids and my q-jet HATED it.  It was just too close to the carburetor and induced a "stumble" that I could not tune out.

I run a 1974 Pontiac GTO "Shaker" assembly.  The factory air cleaner lid has a pretty tall rise in it.  The "flat" X-Treme lid was just too close to the carburetor, even being an open element, it would not work with my set-up.....Cliff

HUH ! .. ok good to know .. I don't need to introduce a stumble to the car ;)

THANKS ! a ton ;)

Cliff Ruggles:
I still have that X-Treme lid around here someplace, gathering dust now for quite a few years.  From the testing I did, the engine ran flawlessly with the stock lid, or no lid at all.  The stock lid has a pretty tall "rise" in it compared to the flat X-Treme lid.  My q-jet and set-up simply didn't like the lid, others have reported that they work fine, but I've never had anyone report making any more power on the dyno, or running faster at the track after installing one......Cliff
