800 cfm carb

(1/1)

Paul:
Cliff,  I am looking for a 800 cfm quadrajet carb to have your shop build/rebuild for my engine, what is the part number for my Pontiac 455 with an auto tranny I should be looking for? some sites say look for 1705xxxxxx but ive found those first 4 numbers can range in lots of carb specs.

Cliff Ruggles:
Paul, what year, application, and HP rating is your 455 engine?.....Cliff

Paul:
Cliff,   The engine is a 74 455, with #13 cast iron heads, 72c.c. chambers, C.R. is around 12:1  im going to use a Comp cam XE-284, will be used for street/strip and running between 500 to 600 h.p. With a T.H.-400 tranny. intake is a edelbrock performer rpm.

Cliff Ruggles:
Plenty of compression for some serious power!

I would put a tad more cam in it, something closer to 300-310 seat to seat timing, on a 112 LSA.

For the carburetor, any 1976 or later front inlet Pontiac, Buick, or Old's will make a great starting point for a really nice high performance carb.

My favorites are the Pontiac carbs with the large front vent, as found on 76-79 350's, 400's and 455's......Cliff

Paul:
Thank you. When I locate a carb I will get in touch.
