Hi everybody I'm new here and having problem with my 1974 Corvette.  I have a stock L48 with 26,000 original mile and hooker headers with sidepipes that I just installed.  Car runs great but when I punch it it will bog down.  I bought Cliffs book and read things over.  I change my main jet from 75's to 77's and keep the rods at 46.  Still have the same problem!  I'm also looking at changing the intake and cam in the near future.  Looking for some advice on what I need to do?  Thanks Steve

Sounds like the secondary air flap is opening too quickly. Check the pulloff (s) to make sure they are in working order. Also check the tension on the air flap  spring. It should be tightened about 3/4 of a turn just after the flap closes.

Insufficient pump shot will cause the same thing.  I would upgrade the accellerator pump to the newer design that we sell off the website.

Installing larger jets will not have any effect on that problem, but may cause the carb to be too rich at cruise and WOT......Cliff

The car ran good before I put the headers and pipes on it was after the install of these when the problem started.  Thanks for the repleys and as soon as it warms up here I'll start messing with it again and I'll order a rebuild kit today.

Cliff Ruggles:
Thanks.  We recomend a complete/correct rebuild with modern upgraded components first.  Once the carb is completley/correctly rebuilt, then you can effectively evaluate what it needs and go back and make changes, if/as needed.......Cliff
