Fuel out of the EGR vac fitting

<< < (2/2)

Cliff Ruggles:
You shouldn't have any trouble keeping up with that much fuel pump, provided that you aren't uncovering the pick-up in the tank, or there is a restriction before the pump?

The size of the fuel bowl isn't the problem, it MUST be kept full at all times.....Cliff

That's what I thought.  The pick up in the tank is a hard line that enters the tank from the top and sits about 1/2" from the bottom.  I removed the fuel sock, thinking that might be colapsing, and put a 40 micron fuel filter in line.  Its been suggested that I use a regulator with a fuel return on it and utilize the return line.  At this point I'm willing to try, cause I'm outta ideas!

Cliff Ruggles:
Several years ago I had a stout 455 in my Ventura, dyno'd a 455.4hp.  The car ran solid mid-12's at 108-109MPH.

I had a 1/2" metal line extending into the tank, and a Comp 140gph pump right in front of the tank.  It ran great but felt somewhat lacking at high rpm's.

I even installed my 4781-2 Holley 850 carb, hoping for quicker ET and more MPH, it ran about the same as my Q-jet.

One winter I sumped the tank, moved the pump behind the tank, and 8AN lines/fittings everyplace.  I was rewarded with 12.0's at 112 on the first outing.

I think that under hard accelleration the fuel was up on the back of the tank and uncovering the pick-up at times.

Haven't had the first issue to date with the new system, and we're running nearly into the 10's with the new engine......Cliff

Looks like I'm going to have to install a larger line from the tank pick up to the carb.  Not too big a deal, but I'm sure it'll lead to "whileImatititis"!!  First things first though, I have to get the speedo calibration right.  This thing loves to run and I've been pulled over twice now....I don't think I'll get a third pass!!
