Set up my Buick / Olds 800 cfm carb.

Have made a 800 cfm Q-jet for my 482 cu olds 70 Cutlass. the carb is a Buick 7043240 with a olds throttle plate (so that the 70 cutlass carb cable fit with with no mods ) sent the buick top to you , it was warped bad ,Great Job thanks. Am having probs with plugs fouling too quickly less than couple days , car runs
good, mid 11.60's This is a Street / Strip car. Timing is 19-20 BTDC , Idle 1100/1200 Vac 10-11 inches . In Gear Idle is 800/900 and Vac is only 4-5 inches. Has the Gold power piston spring. with the low vac I feel this is the problem , so I would like to change to No power piston ,spring and primary rods. What do I need to change in the combo to make it happen ?, the cam is 249/249 @ .050 601 lift.

Base plate by pass .110
lower air bleed .070
Upper air bleed air horn .052
Idle down channel .063
Idle tube .039
I also think i need to pull the throttle plate and have you index it , looks like one throttle blade is open more than the other ( By looking at the trans slot , you can see more of one slot than the other )

Tom, no problem setting you up with the jets and plug for the power piston bore.  I have some new throttle shafts, or could straighten the old one in many cases.  This may be leading to the plug fouling if the throttle plates aren't even at idle speed(s)......Cliff

Sounds good , I'll get the car off the trailer and get that carb off , Just a few Honey do's in the way. middle of next week should do it .

Sounds great.  The new throttle shafts are really nice, and we have them in stock for the early carburetors.  They are relatively easy to install, just grind off the staked end of the linkage, pry off all the linkage parts, and install them on the new shafts.  The new shafts are drilled on the ends for a screw/washer to retain the parts, but I much prefer to MIG weld the end to retain the components.....Cliff
