Carb questions
« on: March 17, 2011, 08:50:52 AM »
Hey guys. I have a 87 Monte SS with a 350 out of a 1990 pickup. The carb I have is a stock Quadrajet off a 76 Caddy 425 or 500 (17065230). I want it to be mint and set it up for the 350 so I'm going to get the HP kit, choke pull off, jets, primary/secondary rods and throttle shaft bushing kit. What I need to know is how much modifications would I have to do to the carb to make it work and where to start with jets and rods? Can I get a kit with everything I need beyond what the HP kit has? I plan on changing heads, cam, intake and exhaust later this summer, I just want to get it going for now. Any advice and answers would be appreciated. Thanks

Specs
weight- about 3500
CID- 350
Heads- stock 87-95 swirl port 1.94I 1.50E
Intake- stock aluminum 305 HO Monte SS
Cam- Stock Tbi L05 truck cam  194/202 - .385"/.403" - 112
CR- 8.3-1
Diff ratio- 3.73
Exhaust- stock manifold and pipes no cat. 2" Y to 2.25" dual no EGR or emissions.
I got rid of stock computer controls and replaced distributor with vac hei.

I would say if you are eager to do the rebuild and the modifications, you should buy Cliffs book. He has recipes that most people findwork for them as listed. If nothing else, reading the book and rebuilding according to one of his "recipes" will give you a baseline. Then you'll have the knowledge to understand what may need tweaking as your engine evolves.
Of course you can ask for advice here.
Check out his book on the site. Click the Logo up there!
