Unmarked Metering Rods
« on: March 18, 2011, 07:13:06 AM »
I opened up a Q-jet #7045213 (1975 Chev) and found both primary and secondary rods unmarked. The secondary rods have ~0.062” tips and are unplated. Heard of this?

The jets were 70/71, and I was also wondering if "staggered" jetting was ever used by GM/Chevy?

Thanks.

Most likely the carburetor was commercially "remanufactured" at some point.

Look at the main airbleeds and see if they drove brass inserts into the .118" holes?

Most "remanufactured" carbs will also have lead driven into the idle bypass air passages in the main casting as well.

All factory jets and metering rods were stamped to identify them.

Most jets and rods used in "remanufactured" carbs are not stamped or marked, and ALL of their calibrations are "generic".

This cut down on the amount of parts they had to stock, and the hourly workers could just drive the same parts into nearly every casting......Cliff
