JB Weld

Is JB Weld good to seal off the vacume port to the hot air choke??

JB weld is no good for the carb.
because it gets soft from fuel and
with heat it cracks.

Marine epoxy, or gas tank repair
is formulated to not break down
from contact with gasoline.

Of course I dont recommend removing the choke,
it helps a lot in starting, warming up, &
proper air fuel ratio when cold.

im only thinking of removing the choke for more cfm. but as cold as it gets here, that may not be a good idea. I will convert it to electric if I keep it.

I have heard people have success removing the choke and tower.
Just makes it a pain to warm up they say, I would just get a cowl
for more air to the carb. or a a larger carb is its not performing well.

What are you building?

Im building a Pontiac 455, 30 over forged flat top pistons, #13 factory heads (72cc) Comps XE284H cam, its in a 77 T/A I have the W72 shaker scoop, carb is a 800 cfm Rochester Quadrajet #17057266. I figured the engine would be a small pain to start and keep running at first when cold. I plan on driving the car in the winter months too, just not when the roads are bad. It gets down to -20/-30 here in the winter nights, 0 to 20 during the day (Preston Idaho ) I read here somewhere of a Guy who has the choke removed and the post says the car starts right up and idles good while cold, not saying mine would, but as cold as it gets here, removing the choke may not be worth it. But its easy to reinstall if needed, either way if the choke is needed it will be converted  to electric choke so the vacume hole to the choke housing will need plugged.
