Gas smell when hard conering or stopping
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:37:14 AM »
Dear All,
I get a gas smell in the car when hard cornering or stopping, even with the windows up. I have no visible leaks from lines or the gas tank. Is this common with carburetor cars? I think it is coming from under the hood. I have a 1988 chevy caprice quadrajet car with all emissions.
Thanks for all and any help
Scott

Not a "normal" occurrence.  Float may be heavy and fuel level too high.  Top could be warped some and leaking at the gasket....Cliff

Just wanted to update everyone. I pulled the carb apart. I checked the airhorn and main casting for warping. The airhorn was definitely warped. Lucky me the main casting was pretty straight. I tried the thick airhorn gasket that Cliff sells. I am not getting the gas smell cornering or hard stops anymore.
Thanks Cliff!
