DASHPOT?
« on: April 16, 2011, 12:05:23 PM »
Carb 7044213
Motor 350, 9:1 comp, cam .450 int, .460ex. 222/222 dur. @ .050.
car weights 3200, 6.50 final drive, turns 5800 at end of strait.
Motor and valvetrain are stock as per rules, pulls 17" @ 1000rpm.
1/4 mile oval track.
I never used the dashpot before on the secondarys I have the spring set at 7/8 turn and I always anticipated the slight hesitation when getting back on the gas in the middle of the corner.

Where is a good starting point for setting the dashpot? Right now it takes 3 seconds for it to open. It is a new one I bought last week from you Cliff.
And now that I am going to use the dashpot should I back off on the secondary tension a little?

Just looking to get in the ballpark, next week is the first practice and I will fine tune it at the track.THANKS

We supply them with a straight inlet, for easy access to the restriction.  I use a tapered reamer to size them, to provide finer control than drill bits.

A reamer is easily made from an old drill-bit, by grinding it to a fine point with 4 "flats", then using a pin vise to hold/turn it.

I'd use a small bit to make the reamer, .050-.070" works fine.....Cliff
