Conversion of a Q-Jet

(1/1)

bigvette1:
Can you take a normal 4MC with divorced choke and convert it to an electric choke?  What is involved.  Thanks.

Cliff Ruggles:
The divorced choke carburetors are difficult to convert to electric choke on the carburetor.  The housing will fit, but there is no bracket or provision for the choke pull-off.   The housing must be drilled/tapped for the choke pull-off bracket, and even then it doesn not have a flat pad or boss to keep the bracket straight or in correc alignment.

We've seen a few converted, never did one here.  One would need all of the parts from an early 1970's Oldsmobile carburetor, or 73-74 Pontiac carburetor, plus the electric choke and voltage supply wire......Cliff
