eliminating 2G ('66 tripower) pump inlet check ball

Cliff,
     I talked to you today by telephone concerning the above subject. I eliminated the passage by threading the inlet orifice in the fuel bowl and installing a short stainless/steel 12-24 screw coated with Marine-Tex epoxy. In the pump well I penned in a steel check ball coated with Marine-Tex for good measure. My question is upon eliminating this passage, how does the pump well refill? Is it from the taper of the bore, allowing fuel in ? I mocked up the pump and air horn, upon doing so the vertical slot in the well is not exposed to the fuel/ float bowl at the highest travel of the pump rod. I checked a q-jet core and discovered they are the same scenario, (the pump cup seals off the slot at its highest travel). Just wanting to double check that this repair was done right.  tim

After I wrote the post. I am answering my own question. The modern pumps are also inlet valves, they check in the down stroke and open in the return stroke allowing fuel into the pump well through the center of the pump cup.  I always thought the Q-jets  and newer 2Gs  filled their wells via the "vertical slot".  Lean something new everyday!
