Quadrajet Carb 7036202 C6 DH

(1/4) > >>

twilloug:
I am looking for a rebuild kit for my quadrajet carb.  It is on a 283 motor.  It appears that it is an AIR carb (703) from 1966.

The motor and carb have been sitting in my dads garage for almost 20 years.  Put the motor back in the car and finally got it running.  (Alot of other work including new fuel tank, lines and new stock pump.)  Anyway, the car won't idle at all and leaks fuel out the top vent.

How much for a rebuild kit?  Anything special about rebuilding?

Cliff Ruggles:
Those early carburetors require a needle/seat conversion to the later style.  This involves driving in a plug and installed an upgraded needle/seat assembly (included  in the kit).

They always leak at the bottom plugs, and many will leak at the side plug just behind the fuel filter housing.

Stripped out threads for the fuel filter housing are common, so use care removing and installing it.

Our SR rebuild kits for those are $39.95.....Cliff

twilloug:
Thanks Cliff.

Any directions in the kit you send or do I need to research a little more on the forums?  No issues with fuel filter housing threads, just had it off to clean the filter yesterday.

Will call and order kit today.

When you test the carb for leaks, you use compressed air in the fuel inlet.  Can I just use shop air compressor or is it too much pressure?  Do I need to remove filter in fuel line?

do I do this with the air horn on or off?

Cliff Ruggles:
To test the plug behind the fuel filter housing, compressed air in thru the inlet.  You can also test the plug beside the fuel inlet seat, but be aware that high pressure air can send that plug out like a bullet!  So don't have it pointed at your face when you do this!!!!

The bottom plugs are tested as shown in our book, by inverting the casting, coating them with a soap/water mix, and apply high pressure air to all 4 jet holes.....Cliff
