I waited over 7 years to find the correct carb number and date code for my 1971 Vette (7041205).  Finally, one showed up on EBAY.  The seller said the main body had been in a box for over 20 years.  My concern is this:  The carb number and date code are correct but there is a casting number in a round circle on the rear of the main body next to where a hot idle compensator would be that reads 7043735.  Just above that it reads RP and just above that it reads GM.

Does this casting number on the rear correlate to the model year of 1973?  I need to know if I've been ripped off.

According to my manual, for carb #7041205, would have part #7041658 for the main body, #7041659 for the throttle body and #7042745 for the air horn. It is very common to see part #'s mixed up on Qjet's. This could have happened at the factory. :(

Thanks for the information.  Is your information indicating that I don't have an original 7041205 carb if the main body part number is 7043735?

My manual doesn't show that. Just shows #7041205 and the correct main body # as I listed above.

Thanks:  I've been looking at pictures of other qjets on ebay and I see that the casting number on the back doesn't seem to correlate with the stamping year.

If anyone else has thoughts on this, I'd like to hear them.

Thanks.

If you have the means, put some pics of the stamped number up here.  I see a LOT of restamped 7040205 and 7041205 carburetors.  They must be in pretty high demand these days.....Cliff

Cliff:  Here are a couple of pictures of the stamped number and one of the rear of the carb.  The fuel inlet threads are stripped out and the fuel inlet seat threads were a little messed up too.  The seller said he bought a bunch of carbs that had been in a machine shop for years and swears this is an original.  The patina on the carb and number stamp area look old.  The jets are frozen in the body but are the correct #77 jets for this carb.  One would think that if they were going to restamp a carb, that they would have used a much better core than this one.

Thanks for looking.  I plan on sending it to you to have a heli coil installed for the fuel inlet.

Doesn't appear to have been altered in any way.

We install heli-coils and turn them around in 1-2 days....thanks....Cliff
