Secondary Brass Tubes on QJet

Cliff,
I got my rebuild kit today. Pretty fast delivery. Nice looking kit.

When I tore my carb down, I noticed that one of the small inner tubes on the air horn for the secondaries is loose in the hole in the air horn. It will move up and down in the hole with little effort. It was also up in the air horn about an 1/8" higher than the other tube when I dismantled the carb..
Could this be causing my problem of a miss or skip at 2K to 3K RPM? (The miss becomes more extreme the further I press the gas pedal down.) It really feels and sounds like a carberation problem and not ignition.

To date I have dropped the gas tank, drained it and checked the condition of the inside. It is like new inside. I installed new fuel lines, fuel filter, tank filter sock, spark plugs, points, condenser, rotor, cap, coil and wires. The carb is clean inside and all the passages have been blown out with carb cleaner.

If I need to fix the loose tube situation, do you have any suggestions for that?

What is your TOTAL timing? How many degrees...30-32-34-36? Tried a new fuel pump?

18 initial 34 total - all in by 2500 RPM
Fuel pump has less than 1000 miles on it and the engine does not act like it is running out of fuel.

The motor starts and idles fine.

To me it seems (feels) carb related. It not a rythmic miss. It comes and goes with the throttle movement.

I put some epoxy on the tube in question and installed the rebuild kit.

I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Well, that didn't fix it.

I guess I'll pull the distributor and put another set of points and condenser in it.

I found a spot on the wire that runs to points that had the insulation rubbed off exposing the wire. I made up a new wire and installed new points and voila. Good as new.
