putting a quadrajet on an inline 6?
« on: February 25, 2012, 05:39:35 AM »
i would like to put a 4 barrel carb on my 68 chevy 250 inline 6.   i have an offenhauser intake manifold and i also have four qjets two of which are in good enough shape to be used. i know i will need an adapter to bolt the carb to the manifold. im wanting reliability, and i think i would like to have a manual choke, id like to know if it can be done and if so how.  i am new to carb tuning and set up, but i want to be able to do it. and have something a little different. any advice on this?

Pontiac had an inline six (sprint 6) that used a Qjet.

I had a 67' Firebird here with that combo and once tuned it worked great.

i have quadrajet on a little 202ci  inline 6
i had to run richer secondary metering rod to overcome the lack of fuel signal when the flaps open up (changed AN for DA)
but on a 250 you will have less problems with that

I suggest avoiding the manual choke.

Every aftermarket manual choke conversion kit I've seen is PURE JUNK.  Flimsy, weak, falls out-of-adjustment at the drop of a hat.

Automatic chokes are easy to adjust, work correctly long-term, and are proven technology.
