Qjet Air Horn Gasket

(1/1)

firebird*boz:
Hi all I recently rebuilt my Qjet Have now installed back onto engine but noticed that the gasket between the air horn & fuel bowl is wet ....(mostly at front of carb) is this normal??

any help would be great. Thanks adam

Schurkey:
Pretty common.  The air horn and main body warp from over-tightened front bolts.  There isn't perfect pressure on the gasket any more.

Could relate to a high fuel level; or fuel frothing.

Does it actually leak, or just seep enough to wet the exposed part of the gasket?

firebird*boz:
Thanks fore reply....the exposed portion of the gasket is wet ...not leaking just wet kinda like a capillar action I gues?... is this normal or should i try to get a better seal between airhorn & fuel bowl?

von:
They all do it.  Modern air horn gaskets wick gas. If you stick the edge of a new gasket vertically into a pan of gas, the gas will wick upwards through the gasket for as long as you hold the edge in the gas. I spent a lot of time and money chasing this problem on more than one carb, only to find out it's the gaskets.
