Fuel shoots up & out top of the carb
(1/1)

Got a call from a friend that has a Ruggles recipe q-jet. Says he gets fuel blow up the middle of the carb. I will take a look tomrrow, but don't know what to look for.
It ran perfect a month ago.
Any ideas?

I'd suspect there is something lodged in the needle/seat assembly. Any flooding condition or fuel coming out the top of the carburetor is related to fuel control, float, needle/seat, fuel pressure, etc....Cliff

Is the engine running ok other than the fuel out the top of the carb? If the engine is also backfiring , sputtering or won't stay running, the timing chain may be worn and the timing may have jumped. The backfiring caused by jumped engine timing will also cause fuel to come out the top of the carb.

This is a 65 Skylark with a 455 and restoration in progress. barely drivable for testing.
Engine is a fresh rebuild and was running fine this winter...the came a hot day...and fuel spiting up.
I looked at the car saturday and saw some problems.
He had no factory return line to the gas tank, and the tank breather vent is totally plugged. (The nonvented cap needs a tank vent.) His heat crossover (iron intake/heads) has not been blocked.
He will be fixing all this in a week or two, and re-check the ignition timing when he gets it all modified. He is a great restoration person but not a racer.
We will road test it soon and recheck this sight for any further info. Thanks guys.
