DRILLING OUT BOTTOM PLUGS?

Newbie here.  I`m tired of fighting these leaking bottom plugs. Carb#17059206. Guess I need to order a set of plugs and sealant. Do I grind off top of leaking plugs and than drill out remaining
material and what size drill bit? Any help welcome.  Thanks

Cliff Ruggles:
Remove any material "swaged" over them.  Drill a small hole in them, and pull them out with a drywall or wood screw.  It helps to heat the material around them for about 15 seconds with a propane torch.  In most cases they just about fall out.

Pressure test the front plugs as well.  Had a later 70's Chevy carb in here yesterday and the front plugs looked fine, but were leaking like Niagra Falls when we pressure tested them.....Cliff

Thanks for your reply Cliff. Does the bottom plug kit contain front plugs also? I want to make sure that I replace all plugs so I wont have this problem any longer.

I'm curious what the procedure for pressure testing the plugs would be?

We supply plugs for all locations in our bottom plug kit.

The procedure to test leaky bottom plugs is outlined in our book.  We use a soap/water mixture and high pressure air.

Filling the bowl with fuel or solvent and waiting for it to leak or wet a rag under it will not alway show small leaks, which are common on carburetors that are approaching 40 years old or even older......Cliff
