I realize that the stock q-jets for Chevys are side fuel inlet style due to thermostat housing, but if a spacer were used under the carb (1/2") and a 90 degree elbow were used, would there be any other issues? Or would there still possibly be a heat problem being so close to the intake manifold?
I friend has a 17058253 that I'd love to rebuild and mount on this SBC355.

stock big block trucks in the mid 70s had straight filer housings instead of the 90 degree. The only drawback to adding an elbow is they can be slightly restrictive.

A shorter fuel filter housing can be used as well, which will free up even more room.
That is an EXCELLENT carburetor, we use a lot of those here for our custom units.....Cliff
