Title: idle problems on a boat
Post by: jetset on September 24, 2012, 05:46:30 PM
I have boat with dual 454's one of the fuel pumps failed.  I replaced the stock fuel pump (90 GPA)with a Holley 110 GPA fuel pump.  Now the engine will not idle, and, a real strong raw fuel smell from the exhaust.  Question is since the new pump is pumping more volume, would make the float is to high in the bowl and flooding the engine. The engines are stock, no modifications at all. Any help will help.
Thanks

Most likely the fuel pressure is too high.  Marine units use the old style float/hinge pin location, and do NOT like high fuel pressure.  No more than 6psi is recommended for them with the correct fuel inlet seat installed.....Cliff
