Title: Idle tubes
Post by: 89SS196 on November 28, 2012, 12:51:24 PM
OK, got my idle tubes, carb is clean.  How to press the tubes in?  A block of hard wood, brass drift...?

I USUALLY WARM THE AREA UP WITH A HEAT GUN, THEN WITH A PUNCH APPROX. 1/8" OR MORE LARGER DIAMETER THAN THE IDLE TUBE COLLAR,  PLUS HAMMER, GENTLY TAP DOWN UNTIL FLUSH WITH CASTING. GOOD LUCK

Tap them down gently with a small machinist hammer, then seat carefully with a flat punch.  They aren't fussy....Cliff

Yuh, that makes sense.  I was going to do that but since I hadn't done one before I wanted to be certain not to botch it up.
They went in well.
Thanks.
