Hello- just pulled this off my p/u for rebuild. It would have a strong odor of fuel from ten away from the vehicle after running. since I am learning I have no idea what would cause this. Any suggestions? going to Mr. Cliff for plating.

thats just like a pig farmer I once knew , great guy but had to leave his boots in the barn . he knew where his oder was coming from. We need some more information , check for leaks ,coming from exhaust ?, only from the carburetor ? fuel tank ? fuel lines , fuel pump , or filter .

the first thing that would come to mind.....hmmm.....maybe heat-soak. If there is a steel fuel line and or filter that is near a fairly hot part of the engine, some of the gas could be vaporizing in the line.(after the engine is shut down, the heat has enough time to heat up the fuel that is no longer moving) If a gasoline is heated it will cause pressure to build up from the vapors. this could possibly push fuel or vapors past the needle and seat ...but this is only my first thoughts and as said earlier.... more info is needed. Like do you have a vapor canister that is hooked to the carb vent...???
(the gas nowadays don't help with the alchohol in there either, not good for needle and seat of old carbs).

Hi Guys:
Thanks for the replies. The exhaust does not seem to be the problem. will check the charcoal canister. As far as the fuel lines are, does not seem to be the problem but will changed this spring. Have not eliminated the fuel pump itself.
I can get within 10 feet of the p/u after shut down and cool down( i.e. 8 hrs after my shift) and it is still very strong. such as I saw cooworkers holding thier noses passing the vehicle. The previous owner said he went through three
mechanical fuel pumps and every time it had the strong odor of fuel before replacing it. I have purchased a new oem style pump but will be setting up an electric pump later this spring. I will check things additionally from your experiences. Thanks again for the help.
