Title: Quadrajet Carb 7036202 C6 DH
Post by: twilloug on June 07, 2013, 10:19:12 PM
So the carb is rebuilt and on the car.  I am having an issue with high idle.  It has a manual choke and I choke the car to start it.  When I pull the choke off the engine wants to rev way up.  I didn't mess with any adjustments on the car after the rebuild.  Checked the primary shaft and it looks good.  Any ideas?  Do I need to re calibrate idle mixture screws??  Any other suggestions?

I did take pictures of the choke setup before rebuilding and I have verified that it is put back together properly.

Thanks for your help.

im guessing your still on the high idle cam. try touching the accelerator a tad after you pull it off choke and see what happens.fwiw

That was the first place I checked.  I tap the gas peddle and throttle goes higher instead of falling off.  Took pictures of manual choke mechanism when I took it apart to make sure I got it back together right.  Going to mess with it today...will update on what I find.

So I pulled the carb off today and I think I found the problem.  The base gasket between carb and manifold has a 3/8 wide long opening that goes across the front of the primaries.  This is allowing air into manifold.  Trying to find the right gasket tomorrow.

Sounds like you are missing the stainless steel plate.  The gasket with the cut-out goes down first, then a stainless steel (thin) shim gasket against the carburetor.

We stock them new......Cliff
