Title: Top plate/airhorn swap

Hi Guys,

Can I swap the top plate/airhorn from a carb numbered 1708 4596 - 1215 JRB onto the older carb numbered 705 8508 - 1078 BJY (might be a 1 missing from the carb number - not on the carb) ?   from a quick look they are different with different air holes etc, but are they interchangeable?

The older carb has a problem with the choke and the secondary airflaps jamming up and looks to have suffered a sizeable knock at some stage damaging the top (which may be why they jam).

If not do you guys (Cliff's carbs people that is) have a replacement top plate (with choke shaft/flap and secondary air flaps) suitable for rebuilding the older one?   If yes how much (and how much to ship to Rolleston, NZ).   Can I combine postage with a couple of rebuild kits too?   What would that sting me in postage costs all up?

 The 17084596 probably have provisions for the MCS/TPS. As would the float bowl. So, they will not interchange. I would start looking for a late '70s Chevrolet parts carb for the 17058508.

I agree w/ Ethan, if it's an MCS/TPS setup. If it's not, then you have to worry about whether it's single MAB or dual MAB. Otherwise, the M4M airhorns are somewhat forgiving, esp once you hit 1977 or later.

How badly damaged is the air horn? If the material is deformed around the flaps you can probably file it away. If it's physically bent, that's another story...
