Title: 800 cfm Race car running a little rich, Help!!
Post by: Mr.Pontiac on June 24, 2013, 06:59:04 AM
Running off 65 jets only up front, Mr. Ruggles helped me set up carb. using small float set at 1/4 inch, lately (changed nothing) at idle seems to be running rich, plugs foulded once.needle seat,was.135 changed to .130. Worried that the 800cfm might be a tad to much carb. for my small 400. Electric pump , regulator , pressure set at 7 psi. runs great once moving. no choke.
Idle tubes set .036, idle down set at .052. Secondary well opened to .035.

what cam and what rpms does it idle?  Close cam lobes don't like idling either so a bit rich is normal with a bigger cam with tight lobes.  How much vacuum are you pulling at idle?  I don't know, nothing seems too out of line.  do you have any bypass air? If you pull a small vacuum line does this help the idle? How about initial timing? have you done any experimenting with timing? What plugs are you running? Is this a chevy engine? sorry for all the questions.
