Title: #6 steel braided line
Post by: fat tony on July 08, 2013, 04:39:01 PM
i just finished rebuilding my q-jet with the cliff's hp kit. also, everything new on the inside as per cliff.
i have a #6 steel braided line from the fuel pump to the carb. its a holley right now. i want to connect it to the q-jet fuel inlet. its a 1976 pontiac q-jet. what size is the thread that goes in the front of the fuel inlet. 3/8" npt doesn't fit. is it a straight pipe thread? what should i get or what can i do to the fuel inlet? i have everything necessary if i have to drill & tap.

thanks,
tony

The front of the fuel inlet is a normal SAE thread. Can't remember what size, but it leverages a flare fitting.

not sure what year they changed . but i believe yours should be a 1 inch 20 threads per inch. if cliff doesnt sell them you can get one from summit or quadrajetparts .com you can get ether no.6 or 8 the older carbs took a 7/8 . hope this helps

the carb end is a 1"- 20. but, i thought i saw in cliff's book the fuel line side had something like an earl's fitting to connect to a braided hose. what i'd like to find out is what size is the fitting going into the fuel inlet or was the inlet nut drilled & tapped to get it in there.

Like 429bbf noted, you need the 1"-20 AN fitting. I am sure if you call Cliff's shop, he will have what you need. :)

Man, I must have been distracted yesterday. I assumed he meant the end of the fuel inlet fitting, not the front of the carb. D'oh!

Yeah, as others have said 1" or 7/8 NPT.

The fuel inlet fittings can be sourced through Cliff, I'm pretty sure. The OEM one with the steel line has the straight thread with flares that I mentioned.

Searched the site for this topic, finally found this thread

QUESTION: The -6 AN adapter that fits in the fuel inlet pictured on this thread, does it still allow the paper filter and spring to fit properly?

I have a fitting that won't allow that fit. The long filter and spring won't fit.

Do I have the wrong fitting?  Is there another that does allow the filter to fit?

thanks

doug

doug. if you have the fitting that is shown on this post (its hollow on the inside )then the long filter and spring will fit . if your fitting is flat where it screws in and just has a hole drilled in it you will have to use the short filter. hope this helps

I use this one. It threads in where the factory fuel line did, and has a 6 AN fitting on the end.
