Title: choke sticks
Post by: bob hoover on August 02, 2009, 01:12:11 PM
After a hot run then cool down choke will not close. I can push the throttle all the way down nothing. I manually move the fast idle cam it works you can try it a hundred times hit the gas the choke closes. Go out for a ride come back try to start in a couple days stuck open again. Any suggestions would be appreciated. 1969 442 all original carb# 7029251

First thing I'd do is hope for a "chemical miracle" in the form of aerosol carb spray.  If the carb spray cleans the linkage, fast idle cam pivot; and choke blade pivots and afterwards everything works good--you're done.  God Bless Carb Spray.

If the carb spray DOESN'T fix the problem, I'd be looking for bent/binding linkage pieces or a choke coil that's either adjusted too lean or no longer has any tension.

I sprayed wd on it because the carb is very clean.  I worked it up and down many times had the same problem. I even took the screw that holds the assembly together and loosened it a little bit thinking that might help from binding. I still have the same problem.
