Ok, so it seems as though I'm asking some tough questions, because I'm not getting too much in the way of replies - but I would like to try this one more time.
I have a little metal retainer that I found in a chevy carb;
this is clearly an aftermarket part;
it keeps the power piston in place;
it negates the need to stake the top of the casting in the power piston area.
Has anyone else ever seen these?
Are they readily available parts?
As with the last couple question, I am mostly curious.
:)

If so, then yes. These are aftermarket and are readily available.

sweet!

ALL of our rebuild kits contain a retainer for the power piston. The type shown only fits the early units, the later ones take a plastic retainer. Our kits will contain the appropriate one for the carburetor that you are working with.....Cliff

I am in the process of rebuilding my carb but can't figure out how to install this clip. Anyone have a picture? There wasn't one on the carb when I opened it.
-
Do you see it in this picture?

That's not the piston or clip I was referring to. I'm talking about the power piston retainer shown in the picture posted by Ethan1 in March 2014

I'm sorry... dah!
I was thinking accelerator, not power.
You mean the little white nylon ring that holds it
at the top...
I must be getting old,

This retainer... ? (which I called a seal)

Cliff's replacement is the white ring, and works perfect...

Still not the right retainer. :P I'm talking about the one used on early models. This retainer came with the kit I got from Cliff.

What year carb are you doing?

What year carb are you doing?
1966 Impala. I know it did not have the plastic retainer.
-
Well I did find a 1966 Rochester carb manual excerpt for a 66 Tempest. (should be similar)
It does not really show how to install that retainer.
But if you'd like, I'll send you that manual section, or if I can find it the link to it.
I think maybe Cliff could answer "how" to install it, but 1966 is older than the stuff
I am versed with.

Joe,
My understanding is that this is an after-market fix, so it's not surprising you didn't find it in the manual. Thanks for looking.
