I updated a previous topic of mine with this but this seems worthy of it's own topic.
While working on the q-jet but disaster struck today. The threads gave way when I was installing a 2.94" x .184" bolt (screw driver slot) in the base plate. I think the base plate is made of aluminum? I didn't even tighten it down the threads just gave way. So how do I repair this threaded hole? Use the next larger diameter bolt keeping the thread pitch the same? The thread pitch is 32 threads\inch.

Is it possible to fix the threads you already have? Maybe a helicoil? If not, then I would say, yes, use the next size up. When I tap aluminum, I use a special threading oil called Magic Tap Aluminum. Have had good results with it. I would not give up on this site, bud. I have been busy, as I am sure other's have as well. Give it sometime. :D

ill tell you how i did it . i drilled the hole out to 1/4 in then i tapped it to a 5/16 and threaded a short piece of a 5/16 bolt threads . ground both sides back smooth . (i used bearing mount on the threads )then i set the float bowl back on and marked my center .drilled the proper size hole through the bolt i just installed and tapped it back to a 10/32 it works perfect. i hate to post some of this stuff because most people dont have all the poper tools . the job took to me about an hour. but if you dont have all the tools it could take some folks a day or not even be able to do it. i wish i took pictures , put i would take me a couple of days to fique out how to post them so i dont take them. hope this helps

just one more note . i dont know if many people have ever seen them . there called( thin wall inserts )there made by jergens inc. you can get them in quite a few sizes. also metric . theyre not cheap. i hate helicoils but once in a while you dont have enough material to use an insert so you have to use them. fwiw

I can't tell by the description where the "threaded hole" is stripped out? A carb number and pic would really helpl. If it's one that attaches the baseplate to the main casting, then it will be 10-32 threads, and a heli-coil is a quick and simple repair for it.....Cliff

cliff from what i read about his screw length 2.94 it must be the 2 long ones that go in the rear.
