I have a 1979 trans am and a1976 chevy truck with the same problem.They run fine until I make a quick stop,then a flooding occurs sometimes causing a stall.I replaced the truck float with a brass one months ago setting the float level at approx 1/4" below the top of carb body.This did not help at all so I removed the top and set the float down approx1/8"lower this helped a little but if I stop fast I still grt a puff of black smoke out of the exhaust.I just drive the trans am carefully to keep engine from stalling.Any help or ideas would be appreciated.Willie ;D

I don't like the brass floats for that exact reason, less fuel control than the closed cell nitrophyl floats. 

Fuel pressure, and the fuel inlet seat diameter can also attribute to this condition.  With the stock fuel pressure, new stock float, and correct fuel inlet seat, flooding on hard braking should not be a problem.....Cliff
