Title: 7037576 Pontiac QJ
Post by: jim on March 12, 2015, 06:50:18 AM
Not sure what I have here or what it is off of, other than a Pontiac.

On the backside ^^^^^ it has the following CAST into it; a circle with 7037576, another smaller circle with A43, an R in a circle and a C in a circle.

On the side where we normally find the carb number stamped it only has the following stamped into it; 4951, E3, and a C in a circle that likes like a modern copyright insignia.    VVVVVV   The E3 is over the hump on the pad that you can see in the photo.

Any information as to year and original application would be appreciated. I'm thinking '67 full sized Pontiac with California A.I.R. calibration but have not been able to find any information at all other than a few random mentions else ware on this site.
TIA

JIM

It's a carter quadrajet, and some of them had a 4 digit code.  I don't know what your 4951 equates to though.  The E3 is the code date, which should indicate May 1973 production I believe.

Please get a clear photo of the 4951.

Well, it's actually 4954 S. Got a better look at it when trying to get the picture.

That is 4954 s.  .  I don't have a Carter listing of codes.  I hope somebody can help out for you.

That is a Service Replacement carburetor. Was used on '73-'75 GMC Motorhome, '67-'75 Oldsmobile Models and Oldsmobile Engine (Inboard Marine). Date code indicates 1973.

Only thing I've found in print is claiming it to be for 68/69 Olds 350/400. But this carb has a divorced choke on it. Last Olds to have a divorced choke was 68 as far as I know. So it wouldn't be  Olds powered GMC either. The motor home chassis with Olds were just like the regular Olds post '68 and had integral hot air choke. Plus it has the Pontiac style secondary air doors on it with the rectangles cut out and the screws have no sign of being molested at any point.

Incorrect. The stamped number and date code indicate it is a SERVICE REPLACEMENT off a 1973 GMC Motorhome, Oldsmobile and Oldsmobile Inboard Marine. The site you are looking at has incorrect information. Yes, I know what site you are looking at. I have dozens of manuals and they ALL are showing the same thing. Sorry.

And the date code is May 1973.
