17057202- .077" Primary Jets, 52K Primary Metering Rods, "K" Secondary Hanger and CH Secondary Metering Rods.

17057253- .073" Primary Jets, 49K Primary Metering Rods, "K" Secondary Hanger and CV Secondary Metering Rods.

Either one sounds like a good candidate. Cliff would be best to answer. Just make sure you give the specs of your vehicle. Cam, engine, transmission, rear gears, etc.

Those carburetors are basically equal from a performance standpoint.  I'd probably use the Chevy carb or at least put a short fuel filter housing on the Old's carb if it were used.

The end result from each would be the same, and both will need recalibrated for a "modified" 350 cid engine.

I would recommend converting to E-choke, HP quick release pull-off, idle system set up for the engine parameters, one of our rebuild kits, correct PP spring, and tuning components.......Cliff

Thanks very much Ethan1 , you are correct . Do you get your information from a book ?  If so can I buy a copy ?  Are there any changes you would make (normal street driving) to this (7042270) carby to run on modern fuel ?
Thanks , Tim . (Australia)

Also thanks to Cliff for introducing me to this site .

What model Pontiac are we talking about here? I am assuming the GTO?

You would be correct. I went right past it. The 7040270 is the correct Qjet for the Ram Air IV.

.070" Primary Jets, 39 Primary Metering Rods, "K" Secondary Hanger and CC Secondary Metering Rods.

Yes Ethan1 your right , the 7040268 was for the 455H.O. and the 7040270 was for the 400RA IV .     Could you take a look at the front cover of Cliff's book and tell me what you think the carb is ?  I think it's of a Buick GSX 455 Stage 1 . What numbers were used on those carbs and what were the internal specs ? How much different were they from the standard Buick 455 carb (auto) ?  Was the Stage 1 option only available for 1970 , 1971 & 1972  ?

Not sure on the front cover Qjet. Cliff would be best to answer.

The option for the Stage 1 went from 1969-74.

Which year are you interested in?

It took a lot of research but I got it .  The carb in the picture on the front cover of Cliff"s book is a model 7029273 .
1969 Ram Air IV 400 "Judge" for manual transmission .
