Title: torqu setting for Q-jet
Post by: trans am greg on September 28, 2015, 09:47:32 AM
Every month or so I will have to torque the nuts for my carb.
Over the weekend I picked up a pack of Nord lock washers to try them out.
I looked through all my books but could not find what the OEM torqu setting should be.
Can someone please post me back what  the setting should be.

  Thanks,
 Trans Am Greg

What nuts are you referring to?

Hi Ethan1,
I have studs in my intake for the carb.
If you look at my first post "I'm In" you can see in my pic of the engine.
I have been told to go 12 FT-LB with an OEM bolt. Is that even true?

 Thanks for the info,

standard torque for a 5/16 bolt is 18-22-lbs. i use hard  flat washers and torque mine 18 lbs and have no problems . just go slow and even . most folks over tighten or dont get them even causing most of there problems. also im sure a lot of folks dont own a good torque wrench. fwiw

Oh, I see. This is from a Service Manual I have:

Tighten one diagonal set of nuts to 36 in-lbs (3 ft-lbs); tighten the other diagonal set of nuts to 36 in-lbs (3 ft-lbs); then tighten all four nuts to 144 in-lbs (12 ft-lbs).

Keep in mind, I replaced the word bolts with nuts FWIW. ;)
