Title: APT adjustment
Post by: springl on January 16, 2016, 05:10:58 PM
Hi All. I have rebuilt my 17085212 Q jet with the help of Cliff's book and kit. I removed the plug above the APT adjustment so I could do the adjustment without disassembling the carb. I found that the APT adjustment access hole also contains an adjustable stop for the full rich position of the metering rods. I haven't found anything that could be screwed into the threads to plug the hole and lock the full rich adjustment. I am also wondering if the full rich adjustment could be set. I have an wideband A/F meter installed so I could tell what affect any changes would make. Check the included picture.

Remove it and install Allen plug

I have not been able to find anything with the proper threads to screw into the carb. Have you actually plugged the hole successfully and if so what did you use?

What about tapping it with a 3/8"-24 taper tap and using an allen head plug?

Already tapped, should be 3/8 24 plug, idk if it's metric. Don't think so.

I always use the original parts on those carburetors.

I use a fine hacksaw blade to slot the aluminum plug, and drive it back in the threaded metal collar, and it works fine.....Cliff
