Title: idle circuit not working
Post by: jamon8gta on February 17, 2016, 11:45:27 AM
my idle is  not right on this 1708 carb I rebuilt. on the pass side idle adjustment does nothing even if you turn it all the way in the idle never changes. I was wondering if this was the idle tubes getting clogged. I am in the middle of reading the book and it seems that I have never paid attention to the idle tubes.

what else should I be looking at that would cause the adjustment screw to have no effect on the idle

thanks

try this . pull the idle screw completely out and shoot a little air in the hole . be careful and don't get carried away . you may have got a little spec of crap in the idle tube or the dcr. if you didn't clean these when you had it apart you may have to take it apart again fwiw

Good idea to remove the idle tubes for cleaning, but they can be left in place and cleaned out with a small piece of wire.

If you bought one of our kits, take the old return spring from under the pump, straighten out about 3" of it, and put a point on the end of the wire.  This makes a great tool for cleaning out the idle tubes.....Cliff
