Title: Marine Tex not very user friendly
Post by: Frank400 on February 20, 2016, 03:09:52 AM
I bought some Marine Tex a little while ago from Cliff, I used it a few times but I'm having a hard time mixing it, I'm never 100% sure I have the right proportions (50-50), because the texture is so different between the two parts.  Would you guys have any tricks you could share ?

Make sure you read the instructions.  I don't know what version you purchased, but the Marine Tex that I use is mixed 5 to 1.  Not 50/50.  I mix it in small batches almost daily for the quadrajets I am building, and I just guess at the mixture proportions.  It has always done well for me.  If the mix is wrong, then it won't set up correctly, but it doesn't have to be perfect to work well.  It should be pretty thick when mixed properly.

Sorry, I meant 1/5 for the ratio.  Yes, I've read the instructions.  It's the 10% margin of error they mention in the instructions that afraids me.

I am sure I have been outside that 10% margin of error many times.  It has always ended up solid as a rock for me.

It helps to warm it up some as well.  It will mix much better in cooler/cold weather if you put the can in front of an electric heater for a couple of minutes before you start mixing it.....Cliff
