Title: 72 Trans Am 17054948
Post by: 38932 on February 22, 2016, 02:48:06 AM
My survivor '72 Trans Am 455 4spd no air conditioning has a 17054948 0608. I was told the carb was bought new from the dealer and installed many years later. The previous owner had the carb rebuilt, new internal parts only as the carb looks new.

The engine runs great, idles well, and reacts to adjustments. After sitting a few days it requires some cranking to get the fuel up. The choke works but it wants to hang for a while. Usually requires a good throttle kick then idles down. Also, it will bog intermittently on quick throttle but then work fine.

I have not taken the carb apart to check for quality internal parts or verify jet, rod size. I believe it is all original.

Any suggestions?

I would take it back apart and install one of our kits in it.  For sure all those NOS units need modern internals for this new fuel, unlikely it got what it needed during the "rebuild".....Cliff

Received the kit on Friday night, changed out the jets, primary and secondary rods as you suggested and rebuilt the carb.
The car does not bog and breaks the tires loose in 2nd gear. Very little tuning needed, thanks for the tips.

Another carb fixed.
