Title: Leaking gasket..
Post by: G X T P O on August 30, 2016, 08:40:41 PM
Hey all !  First post here...
I have a leaking gasket on my q-jet. It seams to be leaking in the front, out of the upper bowl gasket.  Was built by cliff for my dad about 10 or so years ago. It's a 17053753.  And is on a Pontiac 455. Stock bore. Kauffman d-port heads. Edelbrock preformer rpm. Crowler ultra beast cam. 1979 Pontiac Grand Prix.
Carb has preformed flawless for many 1/4 mile runs among driving. 12.2@112 at Edmonton AB. I've currently started autoxing over the summer and after a few events. It started to leak.
My questions are: should this carb be rebuilt ? What should I replace if anything? Or should I just replace the one culprit gasket?  And Can I purchase something local? I'm in Canada and shipping / exchange is not the most favourable ...

 Welcome to CHP! 8)

Could be junk in the needle and seat, float level too high, failing gasket, warped air horn, etc.

Also, I guess you could buy something up there, but you are asking for trouble down the road. Pun intended.
