Title: Do i need to make adj after exhaust upgrade?
Post by: 68 Firebird on April 14, 2017, 05:40:26 AM
Cliff, I am running the Q-jet you prepared for my 68 Firebird 7 years ago.  Carb works excellent!!!(7043266)

My question is I replaced the log manifolds with RARE long branch manifolds and a pypes 2.5" dual
exhaust with and X-pipe.  Do I need to make any adj since the new exhaust is less restrictive.
Car is actually quieter at cruise speed.

I did adjust idle mixture screws, but honestly I ended up at back at same setting as with original exhaust.

The car seems to run a tad warmer at cruise, but that could be my imagination.

Nothing else has changed and car runs very well, just looking to cover my bases.

68 Firebird 400, Q-jet 7043266, TH400&13" continental converter, 3:08 gears, factory intake and 16 heads.
timing 12 initial, 32 total at 3200 rpm with ported vac adv adding 14 degrees.  180 stat and HD clutch fan 7 blade.

Thanks
Gerry

That modification wouldn't require anything done to the carb, or at least it shouldn't......Cliff
