Started on this last winter, had a CC carb & I just blocked the solenoid hole. Removed the outer boosters just to play with, but under load it goes real lean. It's a SMAB carb large primary. I tried reducing the MAB to .031 still gets lean under load. Thinking about blocking the bleeds & trying it.
I have a 72 jet with no rods.
Is it even going to work, or does the large primary carbs not work for this.
Was thinking about adding a POE for the primaries?

I've done a few of the later SMAB units and they were fine running straight off the jets.
Is it only going lean on the primary side at heavy throttle?
-
Yes when I go past about 1/4 throttle. Free rev it's better but still leans out some.
Did you do something different with the air bleeds?
-
What size jets do you end up at?
-
I start about 5-7 numbers down from what it showed up with and work from there....

Might turn into a next spring project, depending on weather.

If it helps I set up a later model SMAB unit over 15 years ago for a customer who does a lot of racing with his car. It's been so long ago that I don't remember the size of the MAB's but they were the smaller variety like is used in the Edelbrock 1910's. The engine at that time made 735hp and the car ran 9.90's over 135mph.
I removed the outer booster rings and set it up with 71 main jets and it has been flawless now for many years.......Cliff

Thanks Cliff so I'm close on the jets then. Just need to play with it some I guess.
