Okay, I removed the idle tubes by tapping them down with a punch.
Then I modified a drywall screw and popped them out. Great that all went well ...Now what?
The tubes are pushed down in the collars and don't seem to want to slide back up in the collars.
How do you reset the tubes back into the collars without damaging them?

you can easily put them in a vice and put aluminum angle iron on the jaws and press them back nice and slowly hth

Soft Jaws on the vice, and carefully press the tubes back together.
...Yep, that worked great!!

I bought that book, and on page 149 it says "Idle tubes are literally impossible to remove without a special tool. And these tools and parts are not dealer service items, so don't expect help from your local parts man or service manager. They do not have the parts or required tools."
I didn't see anything about how to make a tool
Good book though, lots of information, thanks for the suggestion.
...I'll just use Cliff's method to pop those tubes out, it works pretty dang good. I even made a video ;)
