Title: Accelerator pump shaft dust cover.
Post by: 4ever18 on March 04, 2019, 03:55:58 AM
Does anyone know where to find the black rubber "bellows" dust cover that was placed over the accelerator pump shaft on early q-Jets?

The rubber boot was only used on the Pontiac Ram Air carburetors, not on any other early Q-jets.

Those airhorns were also cut deeper and wider to accommodate a metal retaining ring that is driven in to hold it in place.

They were NLA for quite a few years but are now being made again aftermarket.

They also came in many over the counter rebuild kits and the pump was cut for them as well, even if the kits were not being supplied for Ram Air carburetors.  This probably created some confusion as I've seen a lot of carbs show up here with the cut pump shaft and rubber boot on them even though the casting wasn't cut for the retaining ring.......Cliff

Thanks Cliff.  Did other GM car Q-Jets use them as well?  Can you tell me the source for that now has them available?

I've seen them installed on hundreds of early Q-jets simply because the cut pumps and boots came in over the counter rebuild kits for decades.

Far as I know the early Pontiac Ram Air carburetors were the only ones actually set-up to use the cut pump, rubber boot and retainer to keep it sealed in the airhorn.

To date I've not seen any other airhorns with the deep recess for the retainer.

I heard that Ames has them, but haven't checked into it.......Cliff
