Title: Which way to turn Electric choke to set Longer / Shorter warm up
Post by: jamesF on August 13, 2010, 08:11:44 PM
Which way? I'd like the car to choke a little longer in the AM. Currently it comes off the choke, if I dont get into the gas pedal, a few minutes before the motor is happy warm.

James, one must also keep in mind that there are at least 40 different part numbers for the electric chokes.

We also see quite a few being sold that aren't for a Quadrajet carburetor right to start with.  The correct choke should "clock" with the terminal down toward the intake.  If it "clocks" sideways or upside down, it's NOT a Quadrajet choke right to start with.

The one we sell is an excellent part, and made in the USA.  It is made for the Quadrajet carburetor, and has an approximate opening time of 3 minutes.  It can be adjusted within a limited range to release faster or stay on longer.  We sell a LOT of them, with zero complaints or problems.

I see a LOT of carburetors sent in here for work with the wrong choke on them, usually clocked upside down, which not only looks cobbled up, it often interferes with drop base air cleaners and some factory bases.  The electrical connection is usually chopped up as well to get a spade terminal on it.

Ours comes with the correct connector for the wiring harness.......Cliff

Thanks Cliff,
I'm one of the fortunate ones since I have a choke you installed. I did see one of the Generics on my "neighbors" car the other day, (A Pontiac) and it was totally different then mine.

But for the record.. on the CORRECT choke, like the ones you install and sell; Turning which way does what on the choke?

Counter-clockwise to stay on longer, clockwise to come off sooner....Cliff
