Occasionally I see Qjets that flood out and I can't seem to find a cause. I am thinking that the metal filter inlet nut does damage to the inlet casting and causes the soft casting thread material to get into the needle and seat. Is this a reasonable observation ? If so, is the remedy a "rethread" job a cure? Thanks!

That would only be an issue with early units that used the 7/8"-20 threads and sealed on the front of the casting.
The later carbs went to a 1"-20 fuel filter housing with the seal on the bottom of the filter housing so the threads are dry.
I have seen pieces of the paper fuel filters come off and cause flooding after they get old and deteriorated so they should be changed before this happens.
I also see a LOT of folks using Teflon tape on fuel fitting threads, that's a recipe for disaster for sure.......
