Title: Stop suddenly - almost dies
Post by: jamesF on September 20, 2010, 11:26:20 AM
Sometimes. Mainly when still not up to operating temp, but at other times too, my car will idle down WAY low when I stop rather quickly at a stop light. I have hydroboost installed so that's not affecting vacuum.
Would you adjust the FLOAT?

About 500 miles on Carb. Newly rebuilt by Cliff 800 cfm.
9.1-1 455
72 intake
Stock mechanical 70 GTO Fuel Pump
Stock Fuel lines
Runs great otherwise.. Not really a Problem, but I'd like to address it.

The only time I've ever experienced this condition was years ago using a Carter high performance mechanical pump.  Once in a while, when stopping really hard, the engine would falter and idle slow for a few seconds, then recover and be OK.

At one point I check the fuel pressure from that pump, and it was nearly 9psi!  I removed it, and went to an electric pump with a regulator, and have enjoyed over 10 years or trouble free driving, street, and nearly into the 10's at the track at over 120mph!......Cliff

That's exactly what it does..So we are talking about a fuel delivery issue then. I'll check my pressure. Thanks
