Title: 7041230
Post by: mcx on August 12, 2022, 03:39:52 PM
Picked up this nice 1971 Cadillac core, not sure if it’s for 472 or a 500 ?or actually which model it was installed on?
..my real question concerns the extra secondary pull over enrichment holes, not the usual ones right above the secondary top air flaps, but these are even higher up and cross drilled to intersect with the primary pull over enrichment…it seems like it would be  spraying fuel from everywhere(LOL)…
is this correct for a 1971?   I’ll try to post a pix.

Nothing to really worry about.  Post some pics if you can....

I can see no circumstances where there would be a negative pressure
at the entrance of those holes. No fuel is coming out. Maybe air bleeds for the primary
POE on the other side.  ??.  Irrelevant to proper operation. Maybe there to spook the
Holly guys even more. IMHO

I was referring to the oddball holes up high on the airhorn. Not the
ones in the video. Refer to the photo in reply # 2

Yes I,ve seen the normal POE discharge in another video. Some guys took
the hood off a chevy truck and mounted a camera above the carburetor.
The POEs actually continued to flow after the air flap was open quite a bit.

Now we need to find some video of the oddball holes flowing fuel so that I
can be enlightened.

I've seen the Ryan Brown Racing Q-Jet video and it's a good one!  But the video I saw only shows discharge from the POE holes. I don't see anything above it from a secondary hole of any type.  You have to go to his website and click on the archived Ryan Brown Dyno and Shop Videos. From there it will take you to a download link of the Q-Jet in action.

Pix attached showing a wire being passed through the secondary upper hole(not the POE) to the primary side hole.

I've never seen this before, is it an air bleed for the primary POE? Thanks for posting.

If the holes exit out behind the choke flap they would supply primary POE.  I've seen those airhorns used but most aren't drilled all the way thru......

Thanks Cliff…I’ll plug the holes on the secondary side with lead or a small set screw.

I would NOT plug those holes as they are a part of the design from factory.

FWIW

Kenth…thanks for your reply….I’m holding off on blocking the rear side now….could you explain how this shared passage way functions? I’m guessing it sprays out on the primary side as the air moves past on heavy accel and than transitions the spray over to the connected secondary side when the rear flaps open?

The primary POE circuit on this unit consists of fuel pickup tubes and forward .050" discharge holes and equally sized rear air bleeds.

Thanks again Kenth…I have those  exact sizes in those  connected passages…I appreciate you providing the correct info.
