Title: Are these holes in the secondary down tubes okay?
Post by: stevef on August 16, 2022, 09:40:35 AM
This q-jet from an Olds, #17057256, has 2 holes drilled through on both of the secondary down tubes, like in the pic. I saw in Cliff's book that extra holes in those tubes might not be good, draining the bowl too quickly. Both tubes appear to be drilled the same way, so wondering if it might be factory. Should I replace them with undrilled ones? If so, do they just pull out and press in?

Use a heat gun to warm up the casting to help loosen the tubes.

I agree, And use some red loctite on the new tubes, then use a small sharp
center punch to dimple/stake the casting around the tubes. This will tighten
up the holes grip on the tubes.

I swapped the tubes out for some undrilled ones, using y'all's tips. It went well. Thanks!
