Title: Timing?
Post by: Toronado on October 21, 2010, 03:11:50 PM
Not a carb. question but ah you guys must know,
can I raise my initial timing on my stock 1970
old 455, points, from 8 advanced at 1100 rpm to 10 at 1100?
Reason Im asking is my factory books shows depending if
im running delco 44 plugs or 45 I can set timing
at 8 or 10 since Im running delco platinum Im not sure?
Basically looking to gain off the line accelaration, & of
course I want to avoid any pinging.

What is the REST of your timing curve?

(with, and without vacuum advance)

Right now I dont know my total timing expect its been
all done to the factory book.
Previous owner rebuilt dist to factory specs I
was told. Timing mark of course only goes up to 12 advanced.
I dont think two degrees will give too much total timing in
theory, its probably currently around 36 with vacuum but Im guessing.
guess i just try it out and report results, if it pings I just back it off
tell it stops.
